Concrete Forming Systems: Making a Case for Sturdy Home Foundations

TV host and long-time construction expert Mike Holmes advocates the use of concrete in building home foundations, and he makes his case known in an article in the National Post. He says that while loves working with wood on floors, decks, framing, and more, he doesn't recommend it for home foundations for one simple reason: when wood is exposed to moisture, rotting ensues. There are treatments that make wood more resistant to moisture, but the combination of a wooden foundation and a profound moisture issue is still a good recipe for disaster, since rot spreads very quickly. Over time, the rot that started out as a simple moisture concern can easily develop into a serious structural problem.
